Matter Utilities v2.5.5: Better Error Handling & Diagnostics, Better User Experience

Hi everyone, v2.5.5 is now live!

We’re excited to share our latest update for Matter Utilities, focused on improving device setup reliability, diagnostics clarity, and overall app stability.

Enhanced Matter device setup error handling

Matter setup failures are now clearly identified with updated UI/UX and logic, including:

  • Wi-Fi not visible / no 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi

  • Phone connected to 5 GHz Wi-Fi only

  • BLE not reachable

  • Device not in pairing mode

  • Attestation failed

  • Device not supported

  • Device already in fabric/fabrics full

  • No Thread Border Router detected

  • Network timeout

  • Home configuration error

  • Generic errors (user cancellation, app closed, etc.)

Improved Matter connection diagnostics

More detailed logs are shown during device connection to help track setup progress and failures

Codebase cleanup & refactor

Removed legacy screens and the “take device photos” screen to avoid confusion, and refactored related code for better stability and maintainability.

Device name synchronization

Device names set during the Matter pairing flow are now automatically synced with the app.

Network information persistence

The connected Thread or Wi-Fi network name is now saved and displayed in the Device Details screen
